Ashhurst is located 14 kilometres northeast of the city of Palmerston North and a satellite community of the city. The town stands under the Ruahine Ranges, beneath Wharite Peak. The Ashhurst Domain is a popular feature of the area and provides great outdoor activities such as bush walks, dog walk, sports fields, children's playground and a campsite. Ashhurst is also of course the gate way to the Pohangina Valley.
