The Tararua District is well known for it’s rugged ranges. It is bordered by the Ruahine and Tararua ranges and includes Eketahuna on SH2 and the Scandinavian settled towns of Dannevirke and Norsewood. Woodville is well known for it’s selection of antique, second hand and specialty shop. Pahiatua is another rural centre situated on SH2 between Masterton and Woodville. If you are feeling active, Tararua offers a range of bush walks and tramping trails to choose from. Your journey through the district takes in some of the regional rural scenery and friendly small town hospitality. Of course you cannot travel through the area without noticing the extensive wind farm, New Zealand’s largest, both in terms of number of turbines and output with 134 turbines.
