Pahiatua town is a rural service centre in the Tararua District. A large children’s playground with an iconic replica of a Harvard plane greets you at the northern entrance to town. With a number of cafe’s and bakeries you are sure to experience good old fashioned country hospitality. There are a number of unique shops but also farm services and supplies. Hunting & fishing are popular pass times in the area but you will find some interesting bush walks too. This small town has a surprising history with a Polish Children’s Camp established to host refugee children from 1944 to 1952. Look out for the memorial on the southern side of town.
