Foxton - Horowhenua

Foxton is a hidden gem with a new lease on life with interesting new developments around town – mostly community driven. One of the oldest European settlements in the southern Manawatu, although it was not the first. Once an important deep river port serving the Manawatu region’s flax industry. Today, The Manawatu River Estuary at Foxton Beach is an internationally recognised wetland of ecological significance making it an excellent bird watching spot but also good for many recreational activities, including boating, fishing, windsurfing and kayaking. A visit to De Molen Dutch Windmill – a full scale replica of a traditional 17th Century Dutch flourmill, is a totally unique experience and a must do if you’re passing through Foxton.
